Det \u00e4r ocks\u00e5 v\u00e4l l\u00e4mpat f\u00f6r fredsbevarande och humanit\u00e4ra hj\u00e4lp\u00e5tg\u00e4rder vid naturkatastrofer eftersom det \u00e4ven kan tillhandah\u00e5lla medicinskt och kirurgiskt st\u00f6d samt materialtransport. <\/p>\n<p>Galicia (L-51) b\u00f6rjade byggas 1996 p\u00e5 det statliga varvet Baz\u00e1n  (idag Navantia) i Ferrol. Det sj\u00f6sattes i juli 1997 och levererades till den spanska marinen den 29 april 1998. Fartyget har en bes\u00e4ttning p\u00e5 185 man. <\/p>\n<p>Fartyget har tidigare bland annat deltagit som st\u00f6dfartyg till FN;s fredsbevarande styrka i Libanon 2006 och det har deltagit i kampen mot pirater i Somalias farvatten 2010, 2011, 2015 och 2017. Det har ocks\u00e5 bist\u00e5tt efter orkanen Mitch i Mellanamerika mellan november 1998 och januari 1999 samt i Indonesien efter tsunamin 2005. <\/p>\n<p>Fartyget har precis deltagit i \u201dGRUFLEX-19\u201d-\u00f6vningen som b\u00f6rjade den 31 mars och slutar idag. D\u00e4rf\u00f6r blir det en mellanlandning i M\u00e1laga p\u00e5 v\u00e4gen till hemmahamnen i Rota. Den kommer att ligga vid Dique de Levante (ADL) som \u00e4r en f\u00f6rl\u00e4ngning av Muelle Uno.
