Uppt\u00e4ckten gjordes av ett lokalt laboratorium vid ett rutinm\u00e4ssigt hj\u00e4rnstamsprov.<\/p>\n<p>Sjukdomen uppt\u00e4cktes i  Horcajo Medianero som ligger i ett lantbruksomr\u00e5de n\u00e4ra Salamanca i Kastilien och Le\u00f3n. V\u00e4vnadsprov skickades ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6r bekr\u00e4ftelse till det centrala laboratoriet i Algete. De har konstaterat att det handlar om Atypisk BSE, typ L. Den sjuka kon h\u00f6r till en hjord p\u00e5 134 kreatur, djuret har destruerats.<\/p>\n<p>Sjukdomen uppt\u00e4cktes 1986 i Sussex i Storbritannien och forskare kom fram till att det var k\u00f6ttmj\u00f6l i fodret som var orsaken till smittspridningen. 1992 fanns det n\u00e4rmare 40.000 smittade djur i Storbritannien, var tredje engelsk ko bed\u00f6mdes vara smittad. Under det utbrottet var det bara ett konstaterat fall av sjukdomen i Spanien.<\/p>\n<p>EU beslutade 2001  att det \u00e4r f\u00f6rbjudet att utfodra kreatur med djurprotein, f\u00f6rbudet g\u00e4ller dock inte p\u00e4lsdjur. F\u00f6rhoppningen \u00e4r att detta skall utrota sjukdomen, men det har uppenbarligen inte lyckats. Fakta om BSE (bovin spongiform encefalopati)<br \/>\nBSE \u00e4r en d\u00f6dlig och smittsam sjukdom som drabbar centrala nervsystemet hos n\u00f6tkreatur. Det anses att den kan \u00f6verf\u00f6ras till m\u00e4nniskor i form av Creutzfeldt-Jakobs sjukdom som \u00e4r en obotlig hj\u00e4rnsjukdom. Det sker ingen direkt smitta mellan djur, \u00e4ven om forskare misst\u00e4nker att det kan smitta fr\u00e5n ko till kalv. Symptomen kommer ofta smygande d\u00e5 det sker en gradvis f\u00f6rs\u00e4mring av djurets allm\u00e4ntillst\u00e5nd under flera veckor, ibland m\u00e5nader.
