Han ska \u00e4ven enligt vissa k\u00e4llor inom polisen ha erk\u00e4nt att flickan dog i hans s\u00e4llskap. Han ska dock ha h\u00e4vdat att det var en olycksh\u00e4ndelse och att hon f\u00f6ll i en trappa. Polisen och de anh\u00f6riga har haft mistankar mot det gripna paret hela tiden. De f\u00f6rh\u00f6rdes \u00e4ven en g\u00e5ng en tid efter flickan f\u00f6rsvinnande i mitten av januari. Det saknades dock d\u00e5 konkreta bevis mot dem och de sl\u00e4pptes. Det omedelbara sk\u00e4let till gripandet ig\u00e5r var misstankar fr\u00e5n polisens sida om att paret f\u00f6rberedde en flytt utomlands. Den 52-\u00e5rige mannen \u00e4r d\u00f6md sedan tidigare till tv\u00e5 \u00e5r och nio m\u00e5naders f\u00e4ngelse f\u00f6r \u00f6vergrepp mot sin egen dotter. V\u00e5rdnaden av barnet togs \u00e4ven ifr\u00e5n paret, som har klassats som partiellt psykiskt sjuka, i samband med det.
